[Bleacher Nation] - Paul Skenes Gave Some Kids a Lifetime Memory by Surprising Them at Little League Practice

During a day off on Monday, Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes made an unplanned stop that became a life-changing night for a young baseball team in the Pittsburgh suburbs. He saw an ongoing practice at the Ingomar Franklin Park Little League fields and decided to stop by to surprise the kids, who were 10 to 12 years old. Paul Skenes is an awesome human in case anyone was wondering. He was driving by the Ingomar Franklin Park Little League baseball fields last night and saw the lights on and just pulled on in. He was there over 2 hours signing, taking pictures and playing catch with the kids. — BIG BOB (@FSBigBob) Paul Skenes saw the lights on at a Little League field and stopped to hangout for over two hours (via ) — Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) The coolest part of this, in my opinion, is that he stayed for over two hours. This wasn’t a brief pit stop where he took a few photos and went on his way. Instead, the superstar spent a large portion of his evening changing these kids’ lives and creating memories they’ll never forget. It would be cool if any professional player stopped by to hang out with a Little League team, but Skenes’ status in the game makes this even cooler, especially since those kids likely look up to him as the best player on their favorite team. This isn’t the first time Skenes has done something memorable off the baseball field, by the way. During the World Baseball Classic in March, he and Griffin Jax paid for the to attend one of Team USA’s games. Paul Skenes and Griffin Jax paid for the Air Force baseball team to attend tonight's game. 👏 (Via: )— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) Skenes has created a persona of being very reserved and “all business,” but it’s awesome to see him take time out of his day to give back to the sport, especially considering that he pitches against the Dodgers tonight!

[Bleacher Nation] - Just Offering 3 Reasons for Hope for the 2026 Cubs

Listen, I completely understand where things are with the Cubs. They haven’t won a series in over a month, draining hope amongst the fanbase. The lineup has not performed up to expectations — especially with runners in scoring position. The starting rotation has hit a rough patch. A month ago (), the Cubs were 15 games over .500 (27-12) and in first place in the NL Central by 3.5 games — including a 5.5-game lead over the third-place Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs woke up Tuesday morning only 2 games over .500 (34-32) and — a whopping 8.0 games behind the Brewers. That’s the bad. But how about a little hope for Cubs fans — or, maybe it would best be described as “hopium” given the current state of affairs? Here are three reasons for hope the 2026 Cubs can turn things around: 1. The schedule is relatively soft. The Cubs are currently in a stretch where they are facing the two worst teams (Giants, Rockies) in the NL over a two-week period. Now, to be fair, that stretch did not start off well, with the Cubs losing a series to the Giants — at home, no less. But the schedule is still light, as the Cubs begin a series with the Rockies in Colorado Tuesday evening. The same Rockies that have far and away the worst run differential in baseball. The Cubs will then head to San Francisco for a three-game set before returning home for three more games against the Rockies at Wrigley Field. But even after that stretch, the Cubs’ schedule does not get much more difficult. Their next opponent, the Toronto Blue Jays, were a win away from a World Series championship last fall, but they are below .500 this year. The Cubs then make a trip to New York for a four-game series with the Mets, who have been playing better baseball of late but are still just 29-36 on the season. The Cubs don’t play a team above .500 until the series with the Brewers June 26-28 in Milwaukee. July’s schedule is not that much tougher, as the Cubs face a bunch of middling teams (Cardinals, Pirates, Orioles, Twins, Tigers) throughout the month. To be clear: The Cubs need to play much better baseball. It matters more what they do than what their opponent does. But if they are ever going to get back to their winning ways, it’s a bit easier to accomplish so with a relatively soft schedule over the next few weeks. 2. Reinforcements are on the way. is on his way back to the Cubs rotation, expected to join the big-league club on this current road trip. While Boyd hasn’t pitched great yet this year, that’s still a huge, huge deal. Consider: The Cubs have received just 7 starts and 31.1 innings from their top two 2025 pitchers (Boyd, Cade Horton) so far this season. If you told me before the season started that the Cubs’ top two starters would account for only 5% of the team’s innings heading into the second week of June, I’d have forecasted a tough year for the rotation. May 3, 2026; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago Cubs catcher Carson Kelly (15) and pitcher Matthew Boyd (16) walk to the dugout prior to a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: Patrick Gorski-Imagn Images Which is exactly how it has played out, especially of late. The Cubs rotation outside of Ben Brown has really struggled. Shota Imanaga and Edward Cabrera need to find their form — and quickly. [] It’s very hard for the Cubs to get on a strong run — another long winning streak or even a stretch where they win 10 of 13 — without quality and reliable starting pitching. Boyd’s return helps that, even if it’s also coming with Jameson Taillon likely headed to the IL. The Cubs are getting back a pitcher who was an All-Star and a Game 1 playoff starter last year. That’s a surefire boost. 3. Water finds its level. Yes, the Cubs offense has been tough to watch over the last month-plus. of that after Sunday’s loss at Wrigley Field. But why is everybody so quick to assume this is just who the Cubs are now? The first month of the season was incredible for a lineup that was firing on all cylinders. But it was also rather unsustainable. May (and the first part of June) have been difficult for the offense, but that’s also not sustainable. The Cubs will end up somewhere in the middle. Jed Hoyer at Wrigley Field, . I know fans don’t like hearing that kind of stuff right now, but it has been proven to be true time and again in this game. What are the realistic chances Bregman, Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner, Seiya Suzuki and Michael Busch would all have the worst seasons of their career in the same year? It’s possible, sure. But wildly unlikely. Swanson has never hit below .232 over a full season and has a .248 career batting average. His .180 mark will come up. Bregman’s current OPS (.669) is nearly 200 points below his career number (.836). He will hit for power and will turn in better numbers over the course of the year. Hoerner is currently batting 30 points (.247) below his career batting average (.279) and his expected batting average ranks as one of the game’s best (.295), ind...
